There were 40 violent homicides in Macon this year. Here’s a list of the cases

Macon experienced 70 homicides in 2022 amid a surge in violence, shattering the previous record of 54 in 2021.

There have been 40 homicides this year. Here is a list of victims. Note that not all homicides are murders, and that not all cases have been adjudicated or fully investigated.

1. Monquencio Johnson, 26

Johnson was shot and killed Jan. 6 while driving his car in south Macon near on Broadway. At about 8:30 p.m. that night, Johnson turned down Broadway and multiple shots were fired, killing Johnson and causing him to crash into a nearby pole. Police suspected gang activity in the killing but hadn’t arrested any suspects.

2. Ashton Roberts, 15

Roberts was found shot dead the morning of Jan. 10 on Pinson Street near Rocky Creek Road and Houston Avenue. Roberts was shot several times. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect, 57-year-old Algie Bryant, and charged him with murder that night.

3. Ishmael Hassan Saleem, 47

Saleem was shot and killed around 2 a.m. Jan. 19 on Lincoln Street near Pio Nono Avenue and Interstate 75 in Macon. He was found unresponsive and lying in his car. Deputies had not arrested any suspects.

4. Waymond Danzy, 39

Danzy was found shot dead at about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Walnut Hill Apartments near Gray Highway. Danzy died from a single gunshot wound. Deputies arrested Jada Johnson, 27, and charged her with Danzy’s murder Jan. 21, though they were searching for another suspect as well.

5. Pinalkumar Patel, 52

Patel was shot and killed around 11 p.m. Jan. 20 when he and his wife and daughter were confronted at gunpoint by three masked men in their driveway. All three family members were shot, and the wife and daughter were in stable condition. Police had not arrested any suspects, but asked for the public’s help identifying a vehicle caught on camera at the shooting.

6. Robert Clayton Wells, 60

Wells was shot and killed around noon Jan. 24 at the Mrs. Winner’s chicken restaurant near the intersection of Pio Nono Avenue and Eisenhower Parkway. The Dublin man was found in a work truck in the driveway next to the eatery. Deputies said the suspect ran into the woods following the shooting.

7. Jimmy Lee Bradberry Jr., 39

On Feb. 11, Bradberry was killed in a home in 2400 block of Monroe Avenue. Sheriff’s deputies had been alerted to the shooting hours before by ShotSpotter, and discovered Bradberry dead.

8. Jeffery Giddens, 56

Jeffery Giddens was at his home on Village Green Drive in southwestern Bibb County on Feb. 18 when he got into a verbal argument with an unknown man, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office release. The two men fought, and Giddens was hit on the head. He fell to the ground and the other man fled, the release read.

The U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Clark Lavon Anthony, 31, for Giddens’ murder the morning of Sept. 14, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s office. Marshals took Anthony to the Bibb County jail, where he was held without bond. It was unclear

9. Keymarion Manor, 19

Manor was injured during an exchange of gunfire in Macon’s Bird City on Feb. 23. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital by the county coroner the next day. Manor had been charged in connection with a 2020 murder, and his case was pending.

10. Cadarrius Terrell Porter, 20

Porter was found dead by Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies on Feb. 25 in the 300 block of Grier Street. No suspects have been identified publicly.

11. Corey Maurice Hall, 25

Hall was fatally wounded in the 1700 block of Wren Avenue the evening of Feb. 25. Police said witnesses reported Hall and several others were standing around a parked car, when someone drove by and fired shots.

12. Gregory Smith, 16

Smith was fatally stabbed the night of March 22 at the Waverly Points Apartments in north Macon after an argument, police said. Smith died after he was taken to a local hospital. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Zanaria Rashada, 17, for murder after the stabbing.

13. Christopher Matthew Rachalla, 37

Rachalla was fatally shot the night of March 29 at a west Macon apartment complex when he tried to intervene in a domestict dispute, police said. Keywan Gerold Capers, 32, was in a fight with his girlfriend and shot Capers when he tried to intervene, according to reports. Capers was arrested after he fled the scene.

14. Donmeico Mounice Flowers, 26

Flowers was shot and killed on Hall Street near Gray Highway and Interstate 16 the night of April 1. He was shot during a fight between several people at a house and was dead at the scene, police said.

15. Zyshown Dunn, 21

Dunn died the morning of April 2 when he was shot on Log Cabin Drive in west Macon. Police said Dunn was visiting Torey Antwan Burnette, 33, whe an argument broke out and Burnette allegedly shot him. Burnette was arrested and charged with murder after questioning later that day.

16. Ozias Gore, 15

Gore was fatally shot April 8 when a car drove by and shot into the house he was in on Bloomfield Road in south Macon, police said. He died at a local hospital after the shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Raheem Seree Smith, 17, and charged him with murder in Gore’s death May 31, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. He was held without bond at the Bibb jail. It was unclear in the statement how investigators linked Smith to the shooting.

17. Trenton Walter Harris, 24

Harris was shot in a drive-by shooting on Mercer University Drive, according to the sheriff’s office. He and a group were grilling when a car pulled up and shot into the group, police said. Harris died on the scene. Two others were injured.

18. Lemuel Wilson, 43

Wilson died April 29 after someone shot into his house on Fourth Avenue near downtown Macon, the sheriff’s office said. Wilson died at the scene, according to deputy coroners. No one else was injured in the shooting and a suspect was not identified.

19. Trerico Kenyon Thomas, 43

Thomas was fatally shot at about 11 p.m. May 3 at a house on Greenwood Terrace near Rocky Creek Road in southwest Macon, the Bibb sheriff’s office said. He died at the scene. Deputies arrested Destiny Olivia Barry, 21, early the following morning and charged her with murder.

Deputies arrested two more people on May 22 in connection with Thomas’ death. Joshua Franklin Polk, 33, and Amanda Nicole Murray, 30, were both held at the Bibb County Jail. Polk was charged with murder, while Murray was charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal.

20. Demmorio Maurice Faulk, 35

Faulk died May 4 after he was shot in the head the night of May 2 on Churchill Street near Columbus Road, police said. A group was gathered at a house there when an unknown suspect fired in the crowd. Faulk died from his injuries at a local hospital.

21. Kaneza Rikial Owens, 28

Owens was shot and killed at around 4 a.m. May 5 after she and her boyfriend reportedly got into an argument at their apartment at Green Meadows in west Macon. Police arrested her boyfriend, Treyvon Deshun Walker, 23, the following week at a house on Dexter Avenue near Columbus Road in west Macon.

22. Ahmad Jamell Harrell, 35

Harrell was shot and killed at around 1 a.m. May 10 after he reportedly got into an argument in a house on Paul Street near Broadway in south Macon. Deputies arrested Brandon Johnson, 34, at the scene and eventually charged him with murder in the shooting.

23. Brandon Marsalis Searcy, 32

Searcy was found dead in the backyard of a house at 2763 Hillcrest Ave. at about 5:30 a.m. May 16, according to an incident report obtained from the sheriff’s office. A witness stated she heard gunshots, and a sheriff’s deputy saw blood on Searcy’s body.

The sheriff’s office did not initially make a statement about the case, but after more investigation and an autopsy decided Searcy’s death was a homicide. The case was still under investigation in September, according to an email from the sheriff’s office.

24. Olico Dennis, 24

Dennis was killed the night of May 16, according to the sheriff’s office. His body was not found initally, as he was reported missing that night. Deputies later found Dennis’s body in Robert two days later and, after investigation, arrested two people — Jarvis Jermaine Tillman, 38, and Amanda Allen Hulsey, 30 — for allegedly murdering Dennis.

25. Derrick Putmon, 16

Putmon was found dead from bullet wounds on the sidewalk of Williams Street near downtown Macon the morning of May 22, coroner Leon Jones said. He was initially unidentified, but his mother identified him after seeing a picture of a necklace he had on 13WMAZ.

26. Eric Payton Thomas Jr., 21

Police found Thomas dead from gunshot wounds in a parked car June 16 on Montpelier Avenue, the sheriff’s office said. He was found after someone called 911 at about 8 p.m. No suspects were linked to the case as of June 20.

27. Christopher Dewayne Curry Jr., 28

Curry died in the early hours of June 20 from a single gunshot wound and was found in the street on Lawton Avenue by deputies. He was pronounced dead at about 1:45 a.m. by Bibb deputy coroner Lonnie Miley, the sheriff’s office said. No suspects were connected with the death as of June 21.

28. Cedric Bernard Davis, 45

Davis died the evening of July 1 after a shooting on the 400 block of Daffodil Street in the Unionville area at about 6:30 p.m. that night left him unresponsive. Deputies found him in the road, where he was declared dead. Bibb coroner Leon Jones identified him the following day. No suspects were connected with the death as of July 3.

29. Donchevelle Gerald Boddie, 25

Boddie died July 18 in a shooting at about 9:30 p.m. at the Baymont Inn and Suites on Riverside Drive in Macon, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Investigators were still trying to determine what led up to the shooting.

30. Calvin Thomas Hugley

Hugley died Aug. 19 after a fight broke out and led to a shooting on the 800 block of Woodard Avenue. Two others were injured in the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.

31. Robert Evans, 30

Evans died Aug. 20 after he was shot on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard following a fight near downtown Macon, according to the sheriff’s ofice. Evans was taken to a Macon hospital with wounds but died. Another man on the sidewalk near the shooting was also hit by a bullet, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrested Terrial Dean, 21, of Macon Oct. 1 at about 5:45 p.m. in connection with Evans’ death. The sheriff’s office searched for Dean after the shooting and issued pictures of him before he was arrested a month later, according to a statement.

32. Jerry Lewis Burke, 34

Burke died Aug. 30 after he was found shot at the Circle K gas station on Pio Nono Avenue near Glendale Avenue and I-75, the sheriff’s office said. Police found Burke at about 2:20 p.m. and tried to help him, but he died on the scene. No one else was hurt in the shooting.

33. Jamon Deshon Jackson, 23

Jackson died Sept. 16 at about 1 a.m. after he was shot at a gas station on Emery Highway in east Macon, according to a statement from the Bibb sheriff’s office. He died at a local hospital.

Police arrested Nicktarios Linardo Kinder, 23, for Jackson’s murder later that morning. Kinder had also been shot at the gas station and was held without bond after being treated for his injuries.

34. Cameran Iasiah Jerrell Williams, 19

Williams died the afternoon of Oct. 2 after he was shot at a car wash on Millerfield Road in east Macon, according to coroner Leon Jones. He died at the scene and his family was notified. It was unclear what led to the shooting.

35. David Lamar Morgan, 58

Morgan, from Cochran, died at about 4 a.m. Oct. 4 after he was found with multiple gunshot wounds at a mobile home park on Glendale Avenue near I-75, the sheriff’s office said. Morgan died at a local hospital from his wounds.

36. Devin Dewayne Fincher, 22

Fincher died later that same morning of Oct. 4 at about 6:30 a.m. from gunshot wounds, according to the sheriff’s office. He was found shot at the Sunoco Gas Station across from Smiley’s Flea Market in south Macon and died at the scene, deputy coroner Lonnie Miley said.

37. Tre’mon Jarrell, 14

Jarrell was shot near the intersection of Heron Street and Wren Avenue around 8 p.m. Oct. 28, the sheriff’s office said. He died later at a local hospital. Bibb County sheriff’s deputies arrested Tylik Mantrez Green, 17, and charged him with murder in Jarrell’s death.

38. Kealan Tre Hardeman, 20

Hardeman died the night of Nov. 18 after a shooting happened at about 6:15 p.m. on Brentwood Avenue a few blocks from Montpelier Avenue. He was taken to a local hospital where he died at about 7 p.m., coroner Leon Jones said.

39. Brian Matthew Brown, 50

Brown was fatally shot at about 12:30 a.m. Nov. 26 in the parking lot of 100 Lokchopee Landing in Macon, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators asked for help searching for a man and SUV seen on surveillance cameras at the parking lot shortly before the shooting.

40. Artice Pettigrew, 52

Pettigrew was found dead the afternoon of Dec. 24 after deputies found his body hidden in a car in east Macon, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies later arrested Ladonta Lamont Solomon, 46, at about 10 p.m. Dec. 24 for allegedly shooting Pettigrew. Two others, Charles Edward Solomon, 70, and Tyric Deonte Solomon, 25, were arrested and accused of hiding Pettigrew’s body.
