Guns found in car when Macon man was brought to hospital after 3 killed

New records from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office allege that one of the three men killed in a Macon shooting just over a week ago showed up to a hospital in a mask, with guns in the car, according to an incident report obtained by The Telegraph.

An incident report obtained through Georgia open records law says one of the men who died in the shooting, Quantayrias De’Monte Townsend, 27, had a ski mask on when he was brought to a local hospital after being shot. The sheriff’s office previously confirmed that Townsend was taken to a hospital by someone in a personal vehicle after the shooting. The incident report also says a hospital security guard saw “two firearms beside him in the vehicle” when nurses got Townsend out of the car.

Investigators have not offered more information as to how Townsend was involved in the shooting. He and two others were killed in the Oct. 18 incident on Williams Street East, according to the sheriff’s office.

Woman dropped man off with gunshot wounds, left

A woman who was described in the incident report as a suspect drove Townsend from the scene to a local emergency room, where they pulled up to the entrance with both “wearing ski masks,” a hospital security guard told deputies, according to the incident report.

Officers took the semi-automatic AR- and AK-style rifles away from her car, the report says. The sheriff’s office’s Crime Lab later investigated the guns.

The woman, who drove a silver Honda with a “red ‘drive-off’ dealership tag,” was not named in the report.

She told people at the hospital, “I gotta go tell his mother,” then drove away, deputies said. Her connection to Townsend was unclear.

Investigators have not clarified if the woman driving the car was Rekeymia Shatayla Henley, a 21-year-old Macon woman who was publicly identified as a person of interest last week and turned herself into investigators Monday. She faces three murder charges, among other alleged offenses, according to the sheriff’s office.

Man shot ‘was not expected to survive’ on arrival

Medical staff said Townsend was in “critical condition and was not expected to survive,” then was pronounced dead at the hospital before 11 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Markell Bonner Jr., 16, and Brandon Devonta Thomas, 21, were also killed in the shooting. The incident report did not mention either of them.

Since the shooting, guns and shell casings at the scene were used as evidence, and locals were brainstorming solutions to reduce gun violence.

The shooting was still under investigation Tuesday, a news release from the sheriff’s office said. Deputies urged anyone with related information to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
