As Gregg Allman fans line funeral procession, where can you park?
Millions of Allman Brothers Band fans are mourning across the world, and thousands of people could be in Macon for Gregg Allman’s funeral Saturday.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has been fielding calls about parking from those who are planning to line the route of the funeral procession.
Parking is restricted on Cherry Street near Snow’s Memorial Chapel where the procession will leave following the 1 p.m. memorial service.
The hearse, Allman’s family and close friends will travel down Cherry Street and turn left on First Street, and then turn left again on Riverside Drive to Rose Hill Cemetery.
The sheriff’s office suggests the public park in the 800 block of Riverside Drive at the old Macon City Central Services property that served as parking during this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival.
Another vacant car lot is available across from the cemetery at 1090 Riverside Drive near Orange Street.
The memorial service and burial are private, but the family has encouraged people to pay their respects in public displays of affection for the famed musician who adopted Macon as his hometown.
