The alleged gunman who opened fire in a south Macon Waffle House and wounded a man early Wednesday reportedly turned himself in at the sheriff’s office Friday afternoon.

Johntellis Montez Mathis was booked in the Bibb County jail for the 10th time about 2 p.m.

There was a fight at the 24-hour eatery about 3 a.m. Wednesday before Mathis allegedly walked in waving a gun.

During the brawl, Mathis reportedly lost hold of his pistol and went outside to retrieve a larger, possibly automatic weapon.

Customers hid under tables as 30-year-old allegedly fired four shots, wounding a man in the bathroom.

Those involved in the fight ran south on Pio Nono Avenue.

Kelvin Grayer, 32, was shot in the right leg but survived. Later, Winford Davis, 30, showed up at a hospital to report he’d been grazed by a bullet in the same shooting.

Investigators swarmed the area around the restaurant at the corner of Rocky Creek Road and Pio Nono Avenue.

Authorities have said Mathis is associated with the Blacc Team Gang.

Mathis, of Bobby Jones Boulevard in Bloomfield, is charged with criminal street gang activity, aggravated assault, violation of probation, possession of a gun by a felon. He remained in jail without bond late Friday afternoon.
