Person shot in Waffle House during fight

A man was wounded early Wednesday during a fight at a Waffle House in south Macon.

Shortly after 3 a.m., Bibb County sheriff’s deputies were called to the all-night restaurant at the corner of Pio Nono Avenue and Rocky Creek Road.

According to a witness, several people jumped a man before a gunman came in waving his weapon.

He lost the gun during the scuffle, but went outside and retrieved a larger, possibly automatic weapon.

About four shots were fired and the victim was shot while he was in the bathroom of the restaurant.

Several customers were inside at the time of the fight and some took cover under tables before fleeing outside and hiding behind a dumpster in the parking lot.

Those involved in the fight ran away from the restaurant, headed south on Pio Nono.

A crime scene investigator has combed the bathroom for evidence and other officers are on the scene, but no further information was immediately available.
