A Lizella teenager was arrested late Tuesday after authorities say he pistol-whipped his father earlier in the day at the family’s mobile home, where another teen was shot to death last week.

Logan Riley Nettles, 19, was booked into the Bibb County jail about 11 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault in the alleged predawn-Tuesday attack on his father at 156 Briar Creek Trail.

The father, Clint B. Nettles, 47, declined medical treatment. According to an arrest warrant, he was bruised and bleeding after his son hit him in the side of the head with a handgun.

A sheriff’s report of the incident said Clint Nettles told a deputy that his son stole his phone, his cigarettes and a lighter and took off about midnight Monday.

A couple of hours later, about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the elder Nettles called 911 to say his son had returned.

“When asked what happened,” a sheriff’s deputy noted in the report, “Clint stated Logan had returned back to the residence and retrieved a gun. Clint stated Logan hit him in the head with the gun twice and stated, ‘Next time I will kill you.’”

On July 12, 16-year-old Chase Gillis was shot to death at the Nettles’ mobile home near Knoxville Road and Eisenhower Parkway.

According to an earlier incident report based on statements from Logan Nettles and a friend of his, Gillis had stopped by Nettles’ home to swap a pistol, but instead cocked the Glock 19 and aimed it at Logan Nettles.

Nettles’ friend, David Billingsley shot and killed Gillis, the report said.

Nettles and Billingsley then ran into some woods and were later driven to the sheriff’s office in downtown Macon to report the shooting.

No charges have been filed in Gillis’ death, which was still under investigation.
