He was free on bond pending trial when he was charged in shooting

A man accused of a drug-related shooting Monday was out on bond pending trial in connection with a restaurant burglary two years ago in which a safe was stolen.

Perry police found the safe in his residence with more than $1,500 inside.

Kevin Blake Barwick, 27, of Warner Robins, also has served time in prison for drug-related convictions, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections website.

Barwick was being held without bond Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by convicted felon in connection to Monday’s shooting, according to Houston County jail records.

Jason Jackson Howell, 39, remained hospitalized Tuesday at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, in critical condition after he was shot in the neck area, according to a Warner Robins police release.

Police think the 12:52 p.m. shooting in the 200 block of Evergreen Street was drug-related.

Barwick was released from prison in February 2013 after serving more than four years for drug-related offenses and other crimes in Houston County. The drug convictions were for possession of methamphetamine and for possession of oxycodone, court records show.

He’s awaiting trial in connection with the Perry restaurant burglary and on an unrelated charge of burglary of a Houston County residence.

In February 2015, an investigation into the burglary of the Subway restaurant at 1412 Sam Nunn Blvd. in Perry led police to Savannah Apartments at 120 Ignico Drive in Warner Robins.

Police found the Subway safe in Barwick’s apartment and some of the stolen money inside the safe, according to Perry police Capt. Heath Dykes. Barwick was living at a Green Street residence when he was arrested Monday in the shooting case.

In the Subway burglary, Barwick was charged with theft by taking.

Two former Subway employees, Brooke Paige Lawson of Perry and Tristan Marie Fuller of Kathleen were also each indicted on a charge of theft by taking.

Additionally, Lawson and Ronnie Obarr Hamrick of Perry were each indicted on a charge of burglary.

Lawson pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to 60 to 80 days in a probation detention center.

Hamrick pleaded guilty to burglary and received five years probation. Fuller pleaded guilty to theft by taking and received five years on probation and first offender status, which means the felony will come off her criminal record if she does not violate the terms of her probation.

Barwick also faces trial in an unrelated 2015 burglary of a Northlake Drive residence near Perry.

Anyone with information related to Monday’s shooting is asked to contact Warner Robins police Detective Carder Gravitt at 478-302-5380, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-688CRIME.
