Playoff teams are set, but get a calculator for tiebreaker
Who’s In?
Mary Persons (7-2, 4-0), Upson-Lee (6-3, 3-1), Spalding (5-4, 2-2), West Laurens (5-4, 2-2).
Scouting report
Mary Persons is No. 1. And after that, it’s a mess
Upson-Lee’s region loss is to Mary Persons, and West Laurens has beaten Upson-Lee and Spalding. Upson-Lee topped West Laurens last week.
The game of the final night to watch is Spalding at Upson-Lee. Both have straightened some things out, Spalding regrouping after losses to Houston County and Mary Persons on successive Fridays.
The Knights are coming off an impressive 42-21 win over West Laurens, and they are 9-1 at home the past two seasons. The potential to host a playoff game for the first time in more than two decades should make for a wild evening at Mathews Field.
If three teams are 3-2, the first tiebreaker is points allowed to the other two teams involved. West Laurens has allowed 49 in two games, Upson-lee 21 and Spalding 35.
In the first round
Region 4-4A awaits. It’s top-heavy, with No. 3 Woodward Academy (9-1, 6-0), which has been powerful, racking up four shutouts and holding four more teams to six points. Second-place Eastside is 6-2-1 and 4-1, and three other contenders are 5-4 or 4-5, much like Region 2-4a. So Region 2-4A’s fourth place has a bad draw, but second and third are pretty even.
