Some forecasters say snow could be headed to Macon. Here’s when we could see flakes
Get ready, Middle Georgia: snowy weather could be on its way.
With colder temperatures and precipitation chances coming early next week, several weather forecasts show snow as a possibility for Macon and other parts of Georgia.
Let’s take a look at what the experts say:
Weather Channel forecast: 1 to 3 inches possible
According to The Weather Channel forecasts for next week, Macon could get some snow on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The forecast for Tuesday says lows will be around the low to mid 20s, and highs will only reach around 35 degrees. There is a 46% chance of snow, according to the forecast, which says between 1 and 3 inches of snow is expected.
Likewise, The Weather Channel is predicting a 33% chance of snow on Wednesday, with snowfall around 1 inch.
Meanwhile, AccuWeather experts are predicting a 30% probability of precipitation, with “a chance for a bit of snow or flurries in the afternoon” on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the AccuWeather forecast shows precipitation chances dropping to 17% and no chance of snow.
Here’s what the National Weather Service says
Although The Weather Channel is predicting snow, the agency’s forecast looks a little different:
“Is there a chance? Yes, there is a possibility of some winter precipitation, but it is mostly looking like a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain in Macon and even south of Macon,” said Dylan Lusk, senior meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. “However, there is a lot of uncertainty.”
Lusk said that while some models aren’t showing any precipitation, there are some models that are showing a 20-30% chance of precipitation.
“What we do know is it will be pretty cold, actually unusually chilly with temperatures reaching 20 degrees below average in some spots,” he said.
