Five charged with murder in death of Bibb Sheriff's Office warrant clerk
Bibb County grand jurors indicted five people Tuesday in the October 2015 fatal shooting of Bibb County Sheriff's Office warrant clerk Vernard Mays.
Jadarien Shamar Flowers, 20, Michael Dewayne Hardy Jr., 19, Drayson Walter McDonald, 17, Addonis Rhodes, 16, and Curtis Dewayne Jackson Jr., 22, are charged with malice murder, violation of Georgia's Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act and two counts of felony murder, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.
The document alleges the five suspects are associated with the 1012 street gang.
There was a car crash near 23-year-old Mays' Second Street home on Oct. 27, 2015.
Guns or drugs, maybe both, were taken from the wrecked car and hidden nearby, prosecutor Neil Halvorson said during a January bond hearing for Hardy.
Later that day, Hardy and others went to retrieve the guns, Halvorson said.
After a brief conversation with Mays, several people fired guns and Mays was killed, he said.
