Second man arrested in shooting that killed Bibb sheriff's clerk

A second suspect was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Vernard Mays.

Drayson MacDonald, 16, was charged as an adult with felony murder after being interviewed by Bibb County sheriff's investigators about 4 p.m., according to a news release.

MacDonald was transported to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center, and bond has not been set.

Mays was a warrant clerk for the Bibb sheriff's office. He was shot and killed Tuesday night while answering his back door. Investigators continue to investigate the shooting and follow leads in the case.
