Man wanted in Macon slaying found in Texas

A Macon man wanted in connection with the slaying of a Bibb County sheriff's clerk has been arrested in Killeen, Texas.

According to a release on the Killeen Police Department's website, Curtis DeWayne Jackson Jr., 22, was arrested without incident Sunday.

He is charged with murder in Macon in connection with the slaying of Vernard Mays, 23, on Oct. 27.

Mays was fatally shot after answering the back door of his home on second street. Witnesses said several men were in the yard at the time.

The release stated that Killeen officers were alerted that Jackson was in the city and they located him.

Addonis Rhodes, 16, Jadarien Shamar Flowers, 19, Michael Dewayne Hardy Jr., 19, and Drayson MacDonald, 16, have already been charged in the case.

Anyone with information in the case can call the sheriff's office at 751-7500 and leave a message for an investigator or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers and leave an anonymous tip at 877-68-CRIME.
