A Bibb County grand jury indicted 22-year-old D’Michael Jenkins in the July fatal shooting behind Little Caesars in Macon. He faces murder and assault charges.

A man has been indicted for allegedly shooting and killing a woman outside of a Macon establishment, according to court records.

D’Michael Vershawn Jenkins, 22, was indicted last week on one count of malice murder, one count of felony murder and one count of aggravated assault. The indictment alleges he shot and killed Ashanti Macon on July 15 in the alleyway behind Little Caesars at the corner of Pio Nono Avenue and Montpelier Avenue.

He faces life sentences if convicted on his two murder charges, according to state law. For his aggravated assault charges, he faces “not less than one nor more than 20 years” if convicted, state law says.

Jenkins remains in jail, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office inmate search.

An indictment is only an allegation. Jenkins has not been convicted of the offenses in court.

Fundraising page made to support victim’s children

Ashanti Macon was a mother of five children, all of them being under 12 years old, according to the GoFundMe page started by the victim’s sister, Ashley Macon. The fundraising page was started in an effort to raise $13,000 to afford the children’s housing, education, mental health support, clothes and other essentials.

“I’m organizing this fundraiser to ensure these children are cared for emotionally, financially and physically as they adjust to this heartbreaking new reality,” Ashley Macon said.

As of Monday, Ashley Macon has raised $2,310.
