Woman killed in Macon left behind 5 kids, family says. Aunt seeks to raise money
The family of the woman killed in a Macon alleyway earlier this month started a fundraiser Tuesday to help support the victim’s five children.
A GoFundMe started by the aunt of the children was trying to raise $13,000 to afford their housing, education, mental health support, clothes and other essentials. The children were under 12 years old, according to the GoFundMe.
Ashanti Macon was “tragically killed by gun violence” on July 15, on Raines Lane, which is an alley behind Little Caesars on Pio Nono Avenue and Montpelier Avenue, the fundraiser and Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.
Ashley Macon, Ashanti Macon’s sister and the kids’ aunt, started the GoFundMe and plans to personally manage the donations, she said.
“I’m organizing this fundraiser to ensure these children are cared for emotionally, financially and physically as they adjust to this heartbreaking new reality,” Ashley Macon said.
The GoFundMe had raised $420 total from seven people as of Wednesday morning.
“Their mother was a bright, loving soul —her entire world revolved around her children,” Ashley Macon said in the fundraiser. “Her sudden loss has shattered our family and left her children navigating unimaginable grief and uncertainty.”
