A “retaliation” shooting that followed the injuries of a 12-year-old boy in Macon has caused the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to arrest several more minors, resulting in six total arrests related to the initial shooting Sunday and the second incident later that day.

The first shooting happened at a home and left a 12-year-old boy injured. The other shooting happened over an hour later, about a mile away, deputies said in a news release.

The second shooting reportedly happened “in retaliation” of the first shooting’s investigation, deputies said.

Deputies arrested a 12-year-old, 13-year-old, 14-year-old, two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old.

First shooting

A 911 call reported a person shot at 5:11 p.m. at a home in the 2600 block of Mint Green Lane, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies found a 12-year-old boy injured from a gunshot wound. He was still in “critical but stable condition” Monday afternoon, deputies said.

Investigators arrested a 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy around 6:40 p.m. near the 2300 block of Houston Avenue in relation to that shooting. They were taken to the sheriff’s office headquarters for further investigation, and were charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The 12-year-old was released from custody and given to his parents as they were “awaiting a court hearing,” deputies said.

The 14-year-old was taken to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center.

Second shooting

Witnesses told investigators the 12-year-old boy who was shot during the first incident was connected to a second incident, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

While the first incident was under investigation, deputies responded to another report of shots fired around 6:30 p.m. about a mile away, in the 2200 block of Silver Pines Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.

No one was injured during the second shooting, deputies said.

Multiple juveniles fled the scene and went toward Rocky Creek Road, where a 13-year-old boy, two 15-year-old boys and a 17-year-old were arrested around 6:37 p.m. according to a news release.

They were taken to the sheriff’s office headquarters for further investigation.

The 13-year-old and two 15-year-olds were each charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, in connection to the second shooting, according to deputies. They were taken to the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center.

The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, but it was unclear how many counts he faced. The teenager was being charged as an adult and taken to the Bibb County Jail.

The incidents were still under investigation Monday afternoon. Deputies urged anyone with related information to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
