Washington County man found shot in crashed car in Macon over weekend dies in hospital

A 26-year-old Washington County man died Monday at a Macon hospital, two days after he was found shot and critically wounded in a car that crashed in eastern Bibb County.

The victim, Tadarius Cornelius Williams, of Tennille, had been driving a Ford Focus that wrecked and rolled onto its side at the intersection of New Clinton and Millerfield roads at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Bibb sheriff’s officials said.

It was not immediately clear where the shooting happened.

In a statement announcing Williams’ death shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, the sheriff’s officials said 21-year-old Deshondre Octavious Liggins, who had been arrested earlier in connection with Williams’ shooting, had been charged with murder.

Liggins, of Jefferson Circle in northwest Macon, was being held without bond Monday at the Bibb jail.

Williams’ slaying was the county’s 16th homicide of 2022 — 14 of which have been the result of gunshot wounds. Six of the 16 slayings happened in January, five were in February, four were in March and Williams’ death was the first this month.

There were 54 homicides countywide last year.
