A nearly 123,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace going up in Perry that represents a $36 million capital investment is targeted to open in the spring of 2027.

The new Kroger Marketplace at 316 Perry Parkway is expected to replace the current Kroger store 1367 Sam Nunn Blvd., according to a Kroger news release announcing the official groundbreaking.

The current store will remain open while the new Kroger Marketplace is under construction, the release said.

Kroger associates at the current store will be able to apply for positions and opportunities at the new Kroger Marketplace closer to the opening date, according to a Kroger spokesperson. A store of this size typically employs between 250 and 300 associates.

Kroger’s Atlanta Division is expected to break ground on the new Kroger Marketplace at 10 a.m. Feb. 25.

“This is not just a capital investment, it’s a community investment,” Tammie Young-Ennaemba, head of communications and public affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division, said in a news release. “We recognize Kroger’s unique role in the communities we serve and are committed to creating positive change and delivering on our purpose to feed the human spirit.”

The new Kroger Marketplace will feature its regular departments such as floral, bakery, deli, meat and fresh produce.

The Kroger Marketplace will also offer a Murray’s Cheese Shop, sushi bar, household, baby toy and apparel departments, a pharmacy with a drive-thru, online ordering and grocery pick up service, according to the release.

The Kroger Marketplace site includes an attached 10,800-square-foot shopping strip, a Kroger Fuel Center and five to-be-developed outparcels, according to the site plan.

The outparcels are just over or under 1 acre. The building that now houses Papa John’s and Tobacco & Vape is shown on a sixth outparcel, according to the site plan.

“We are looking forward to the groundbreaking ceremony as we welcome our local officials and community partners,” Young-Ennaemba said. “As an employer, food processor, retailer, pharmacy and more, we are proud to be part of this growing community.”

The new Kroger Marketplace is part of an explosion of growth along the Perry Parkway near its intersection with South Houston Lake Road that includes new restaurants, retail shops and housing.
