What’s new, what’s coming. Here’s a snapshot of more developments in Perry
The explosion of growth along Perry Parkway isn’t all that’s coming or is new to Perry.
A new brewery and event space is going up in historic downtown Perry, along with a new bank at the former site of the New Perry Hotel.
Meanwhile, a new nostalgic drive-in restaurant is coming to Sam Nunn Blvd., along with another new restaurant nearby and other developments in the vicinity.
Last but not least, the first hotel to be built on the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter is welcoming guests. The new dual brand hotel is part of Retreat Hotels and Resorts.
Here’s a snapshot of the new developments:
Left at the Pig Brewery
Construction has started for a new full service brewery and event space at 911 Jernigan St. in historic downtown Perry.
The new brewery is expected to be built in such a way that although it’s a one-story building, it will look like a two-story structure with a contemporary take on historic mill architecture, based on what’s been presented to the Main Street Advisory Board.
Red clay-colored brick designed to look like thick brick walls with faux chimneys is expected to be constructed along the two sides of the building that will likely have a gable roof.
A flat metal awning is expected to extend across the front facade, with large clerestory windows on the upper facade. Windows and door frames are expected to be bronze and aluminum.
The old metal barn at the rear of the property is expected to be restored for event space at a later date. A multi-level space for outdoor activities is planned in the space between the new building and barn.
Morris Bank
Site preparation has begun for the new Morris Bank at the site of the former New Perry Hotel at 800 Main St. in historic downtown Perry.
The new 8,450-square-foot, two-story building will serve as the new Perry branch office of Dublin-headquartered Morris Bank.
The historic hotel was demolished in the summer of 2024 after it fell into disrepair and was deemed unsalvageable.
Morris Bank purchased the 1.57 acres of property for $2.2 million in January 2025.
Having outgrown its current Perry branch location on Carroll Street, Morris Bank expects to better serve its customers in the large, more efficient 8,500-square-foot new building, a bank spokeswoman previously told The Telegraph in an email.
Sonic
The construction of a new 1,726-square-foot drive-in restaurant is expected to go up at 1425 Sam Nunn Blvd. after demolition of the former Zaxby’s on site.
Founded in 1953, Sonic bills itself as the largest drive-in restaurant brand in the U.S., with more than 3,500 restaurants in 48 states. The drive-in restaurant chain, which also has drive-thru, is known for its burgers, hot dogs, tater tots and drink combinations, including limeades.
Zaxby’s closed its Sam Nunn Blvd. location to open a new Zaxby’s nearby at 101 Hampton Court. Zaxby’s also has another Perry location at 311 Perry Parkway.
Koji Hibachi & Sushi
The new sign is up for this a sit down, dine-in restaurant coming soon to 100 Valley Drive in the former Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar.
Workers have been on site for the remodel and restoration of the 4,658-square-foot restaurant built in 1988.
The spot will join a variety of new restaurants coming to Perry.
Mason Tractor Co.
The Perry location of one of the oldest family owned farm equipment dealers in Georgia is getting a new home at 1121 St. Patrick Drive just off Interstate 75.
The new 1,500-square-foot building will offer more space and better flow, according to a Mason Tractor Co. Facebook post. Now located at 912 Jernigan St. in downtown historic Perry, Mason Tractor Co. is expected to move into its new spot this year.
Dual-brand hotel at the GNF&A
The dual branded TownePlace & Suites by Marriott and Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites brings two Marriott brands under one roof with an air conditioned, connection corridor to the Miller-Murphy-Howard Conference Center.
The long-awaited 129-room hotel includes 66 TownePlace Suites rooms and 63 Fairfield rooms.
Shared amenities include the 1824 Kitchen & Bar, pool and spa, fitness center, guest laundry facilities and electric vehicle charging stations.
Inspired by the region’s agrarian heritage and equine culture, the hotel’s design complements the fairgrounds.
Hilton Garden Inn Perry
The city of Perry also has a new hotel at 112 Hampton Court just off Sam Nunn Blvd. near Interstate 75.
The 94-room hotel offers on-site dining and flexible meeting space within a short distance of the fairgrounds and downtown Perry.
In addition to indoor dining, the hotel’s The Garden Bar offers outdoor seating with a firepit and fireplace.
The Hampton Inn
The renovation of the Hampton Inn, which requires its closure for 12 to 13 months, is expected to start in about a month, according to Eliseo Vargas, superintendent for Ambryo Construction.
Vargas and his team were on site Wednesday erecting fencing around the hotel in preparation of the renovation they’ll be doing.
The hotel is expected to reopen as a dual-branded Hampton Inn by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton. The hotel at 102 Hampton Court is next to the new Hilton Garden Inn Perry.
Aspen Dental & Piedmont Urgent Care
The new building is going up quickly for the dental and medical facilities at 1363 Sam Nunn Blvd., the former site of the Perry Chick-fil-A.
The old Chick-fil-A was torn down to make room for the new businesses. After nearly 30 years at the old site, the Perry Chick-fil-A moved to its larger, updated and more accessible location at 1600 Sam Nunn Blvd. just off I-75 in 2022.
