GA has 2 of the ‘most charming’ downtowns in US, HGTV says. Here’s why they’re special
If you’re looking for some of the most beautiful and fun downtown spots around, you may not have to go far.
HGTV recently found 40 of the most charming downtowns in the country and two Georgia locations were recognized for their classic southern feel and vibrant scene. Here’s where:
Athens, GA
Home of the Georgia Bulldogs, Athens, GA was highlighted for its fun college downtown feel and music scene.
“Athens is a vibrant college town that’s rich in Southern appeal. It’s also well-known for its music scene, thanks to wildly successful hometown bands like R.E.M. and The B-52s,” said HGTV experts.
Athens also has several shops, restaurants, Victorian-style buildings and a historic theater to keep locals and tourists entertained.
Dahlonega, GA
“This mountain escape is known for wine, waterfalls and gold. That’s because it’s not only located in the heart of Georgia wine country, with nearly two dozen wineries and tasting rooms, but it was also the site of a major gold rush in the 1820s,” HGTV experts said.
Dahlonega also has live music most weekends, plenty of shops, a candy store and locally made goods.
