Pedestrian dies after being hit by a vehicle in south Macon

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in south Macon Monday night, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

A Ford was reportedly driving north on Hawkinsville Road when it “struck a female pedestrian,” deputies said in a news release.

A 911 call reported the incident at 9:41 p.m. on Hawkinsville Road near McMillan Drive, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman who was hit was identified as 49-year-old Cynthia Pruett, the Bibb County Coroner’s Office said. The sheriff’s office spelled her last name as Pruitt.

She was taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

It is unclear if anyone is facing charges related to the crash. The sheriff’s office denied The Telegraph’s request for comment.

The crash was under investigation Tuesday morning. Deputies urged anyone with related information to call the sheriff’s office and ask to speak with a a fatality investigator at 478-751-7500.
