10-year-old girl struck in back when shots fired at a Macon home

A 10-year-old girl was struck in the back when several shots were fired toward a Macon residence late Wednesday.

The girl was immediately taken by arriving deputies to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where she was listed in stable condition, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The 10:39 p.m. incident took place at 592 Hawkins St. near the intersection of Candy Street.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the incident, which was not thought to have been a drive-by shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident marks the third shooting this week in Macon. The first was fatal.

Sunday, Howard Walker, 77, told sheriff’s deputies that he heard someone attempting to break into his East Pine Hill home through a boarded up window at 10:19 p.m.

“Walker grabbed his handgun and fired a shot towards the window,” a sheriff’s office news release said. “It was later discovered that a female had been struck by the bullet, just outside of the window.”

April Lynn Boyd, 53, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Monday night, 29-year-old Demeatrus Darnell Jackson of Atlanta was dropped off at a Macon-Bibb County Fire Station at 2285 Second St. with a gunshot wound to his right side. He was taken to the Medical Center for treatment.

Anyone with information in reference to the shootings is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
