Second Macon brother sought in police pursuit crash that left teen dead turns self in

Arrest warrants on charges of theft by receiving stolen auto and guns have been issued for two brothers in connection with a vehicle pursuit in Macon that ended with the death of a teenager.

Fourteen-year-old Shakayla Hill was killed in the Feb. 17 crash on Napier Avenue at Habersham Avenue. The 15-year-old driver accused of fleeing from Bibb County sheriff’s deputies in the stolen vehicle was previously charged with felony murder.

Drequan Brown, 17, turned himself in Thursday on theft by receiving in connection to the stolen Nissan Sentra that he was a front-seat passenger in and theft by receiving stolen firearms found at the crash scene, according to Bibb County sheriff’s Sgt. Linda Howard and an updated news release.

His brother, 18-year-old Dontavious Brown, who was riding in the back seat, was arrested on those same charges when he arrived for school at Westside High School on Tuesday. He is free on a $4,700 bond.

The brothers ran away after 1:40 a.m. deadly crash.

The 15-year-old driver was also charged with theft by receiving stolen auto, reckless driving and felony fleeing. He remains hospitalized at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, for injuries sustained in the crash.

He is being charged as a juvenile at this time and is expected to taken to Macon Regional Youth Detention Center upon release from the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office news release.

The fifth person in the car, a 15-year-old girl, was treated at the Medical Center.

The driver is accused of failing to stop for a red light at Park Street when turning left onto Napier Avenue, according to the release.

While fleeing from deputies at a high rate of speed, he lost control of the vehicle on Napier Avenue near Habersham Avenue — striking a utility pole and multiple trees. The car rolled over onto its roof, ejecting all of the occupants from the vehicle.

The car was reported stolen in Bibb County on Feb. 12, according to the release. The two semi-automatic pistols were reported stolen out of Monroe County.
