15-year old charged with murder after teen dies in fatal wreck on Napier Avenue, sheriff says

A fatal car wreck early Monday left one teenager dead and a pair of others in the hospital after the car lost control and hit a utility pole ejecting all passengers, officials say.

At 1:40 a.m. a Nissan Sentra, which was reported stolen on Feb. 12, failed to stop at a traffic light on Napier Avenue near Habersham Avenue. Deputies attempted to stop the car when it sped off down Napier Avenue.

The 15-year old driver of the car lost control, hitting a pole and multiple trees, according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The car rolled on to its roof and all those inside the car were ejected. Two unknown passengers ran from the scene while three remained.

A 14-year old passenger was declared dead on the scene while the driver and another 15-year old female passenger were taken to Navicent Medical Center for treatment.

The driver has been charged with murder and theft by receiving a stolen auto, reckless driving and eluding police. At this time, he is being charged as a juvenile and was not identified by authorities, according to BCSO. Two guns that were reported stolen in Monroe County were also found at the scene.

Once the driver is released from the hospital he will be taken to the Macon RYDC facility. The two passengers that fled on foot had not been found as of Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact BCSO at 478-751-7500.
