67-year-old man drives himself to a Macon home for help after being shot, deputies say

A 67-year-old man was shot during a robbery Thursday night on Villa Esta Avenue in Macon.

Wounded in the groin, Carey Chapel of Macon drove himself to a Spencer Circle residence where deputies were summoned, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies first responded to Villla Esta Avenue to a possible shooting at 8:36 p.m. but didn’t find a victim. At 9:08 p.m., they got the call that the victim, later identified as Chapel, was at a residence in the 3900 block of Spencer Circle.

“It was reported that the victim was on Villa Esta Avenue when he was approached by multiple male subjects,” the release said. “One of the subjects pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The victim was shot during the incident.”

The victim was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was listed in stable condition Friday.

Scant details were released about the shooting except that Chapel was stopped in his truck on the side of the street, according to Bibb County sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Williams.

No information was available on a suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751 -7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
