Victim of homicide near Mercer Village identified
A man was shot dead on Carling Avenue in Macon on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Javaris Antoine Brown, 33, according to a Bibb County Sheriff's Office release. He is believed to have been shot multiple times, Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene at 4:52 p.m. after someone reported seeing an unresponsive person in a vehicle, according to the release. Miley said neighbors reported hearing multiple gun shots.
Carling Avenue is on the opposite side of Interstate 75 from Mercer Village. Miley said the car was found in the middle of the street, still running.
"We are not sure what happened," he said. "We are not sure what the circumstances are or why it happened."
Crime scene investigators had a portion of the street blocked off Sunday evening as they gathered evidence while neighbors watched.
The death is the fifth homicide of the year in Macon and the third in two days. A 16-year-old was charged with murder after he allegedly choked his sister to death Friday. Early Saturday a man was shot dead after he and three others allegedly attempted to rob a juvenile.
