I just tried the best wings in Macon, according to your votes. Here’s what I thought
Taco Mac has the best wings in Macon.
That was all you, Macon. You voted in our best wings bracket and Taco Mac won the saucy, meaty votes.
So, what’s the fuss all about?
I decided to go see and taste for myself to determine if these wings truly are the ones to beat.
Here’s my review:
Are Taco Mac’s wings really the best in Macon?
Todd Casale, local owner and operator of Taco Mac in Macon, has quite the impressive restaurant. From its wonderful team ready to serve to its beautiful, bright interior. Let’s not forget the 75+ beers on tap and the extensive, delicious menu.
There’s so much to love at Taco Mac, but above all, the wings may be the number one thing that keeps Maconites coming back for more and more for years to come.
“This is so awesome,” Casale said when I told him about the big bracket win. He immediately invited me to come try them for myself. And who was I to say no?
The wings
On the menu, there are three types of wings to choose from: original, oven roasted or boneless. This choice was easy for me: I chose the original.
Now, the flavors were a bit harder for me to pick because there are so many. Taco Mac offers sauces and dry rubs in flavors like dry lemon pepper, chili mango, wet lemon pepper, mild buffalo, parmesan garlic, Asian sweet heat, BBQ sauce, honey chipotle and more.
I decided to try the Parmesan garlic and BBQ sauce, so I got 20 all together, 10 in each flavor.
My husband and his friend from the Navy were with me, so I was excited for them to try some as well.
When the wings came out, they were hot and had plenty of sauce. My husband immediately noticed the size of the wings and said that they had “a good amount of meat” on them.
The Parmesan garlic sauce was impeccable, with plenty of garlic taste (which I love) and a hint of cheesy goodness from the Parmesan. The sauce was also very buttery, which added to the savory flavor. To my husband’s point, the wings were very meaty and a good size, so I felt like they were worth the price.
Next, I tried the BBQ sauce wings and they were just as delicious, but the BBQ sauce had a sweet kick to it that was extra pleasant. My husband said he loved the BBQ sauce because it tasted house made.
Speaking of house made, the ranch that came with the wings was straight up mouthwatering. It’s thicker in consistency than most house made ranches, which I enjoyed. And although the wings didn’t need a dip of ranch, the ranch took it to another level.
Talk about a chef’s kiss all around. Score: 5 out of 5.
The price
Let’s talk money now.
A double order of the original wings (20 wings) was $24.99. It came with celery, carrots and the house made ranch.
“That’s really not a bad price for the wings,” my husband said.
“It’s the best deal around,” my husband’s friend added.
Other prices include:
6 wings for $8.99
10 wings for $13.99
30 wings for $35.99
50 wings for $58.99
Please note: if you want to order fries or another side, you’ll pay extra. However, I highly recommend their fries or sweet potato fries. They are cooked to perfection and they don’t skimp on the amount of fries they serve.
My overall score for price: 4.5 out of 5.
Are they kid friendly?
On this taste test, we did bring my 3-year-old daughter with us and she decided to try the boneless wings in the BBQ sauce.
“It’s so good,” she said with a saucy smile.
Her meal was $6.49 and came with four boneless wings, fries, a drink and an oatmeal cream pie for dessert.
She also tried one of the bone-in original wings and while she couldn’t get all the meat off of that one, she was cute trying.
If your child isn’t into wings, Taco Mac also offers tacos, burgers, chicken tenders, mac and cheese and mini corn dogs on the kids’ menu.
Overall, I think my daughter would give Taco Mac’s wings a 5 out of 5, too.
