Restaurant News & Reviews

A new restaurant is coming to Macon & it’s opening in a familiar spot. What we know

A new little slice of heaven is coming to Macon.

Or should we say, coming back to Macon.

It’ll take the place of JAG’s Pizzeria, which closed in 2023, and it promises to be the MVP.

The new pizzeria is called Mercer Village Pizza and is located at 1635 Montpelier Ave. in Macon.

The announcement of the new restaurant broke on social media with a post from the new pizza joint.

“We are thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of Mercer Village Pizza, your new go-to spot for delicious, mouth-watering pizza and local craft beer right here in the heart of our community,” read the Facebook post.

The restaurant will have its grand opening on April 10.

The owner of the restaurant, Joseph Kiefer, shared his excitement to begin serving the people of Macon and his vision for the new pizzeria.

“It’s about crafting an experience that resonates with every guest, making our spot not just a place to eat, but a destination to make memories,” he said.

Though the location has been the home of several pizzerias over the years, from Sauced to JAG’s, Kiefer said his restaurant will be a bit different.

“We are not just opening another pizza place,” he said. “I am personally committed to ensuring that our menu offers a fresh perspective on pizza, combining traditional techniques with innovative flavors that cater to the tastes of our community in Middle Georgia.”

Specifically, Kiefer said he will be serving 100% Neapolitan pizza with homemade dough, sauce made in house and other high quality ingredients. And another thing that sets MVP apart from the rest? A lunchtime all-you-can-eat salad bar with a unique Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flair.
