Fort Valley man killed in crash on I-75 in Bibb County
The victim in a crash late Monday night on Interstate 75 in Bibb County was identified as 27-year-old Jecavesia Hayward of Fort Valley.
Hayward was the front seat passenger in a black 2011 Toyota Camry traveling southbound in the right lane when the car struck the back of a tractor-trailer pulled over to the side of the interstate in the emergency lane, according to a Bibb County sheriff’s news release. The car’s driver lost control of the vehicle.
Hayward was ejected from the car and struck by passing vehicles, the release states. The drivers of those vehicles stopped and called 911 for help.
Hayward was pronounced dead on the scene by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. The car’s driver and back seat passenger were taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where they were listed in stable condition Tuesday, the release states.
No one else was injured in the 11:46 p.m. crash just past the Sardis Church Road exit. The accident remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
Hayward is the brother of NFL player Casey Hayward, said Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley. Casey Hayward is a cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly spelled Jecavesia Hayward.
