5 things to know for Monday
Here are some stories you might have missed this weekend.
1. Woman wins St. Jude Dream Home
Hilda Dukes, a Roberta woman, was announced the winner of the St. Jude Dream Home June 25. The house is located in The Tiffany subdivision in Warner Robins. The Dream Home Giveaway program began in 1991, and this year’s raffle raised $703,400 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
2. Men lead police on chase through Byron
Three individuals fled from the police during a traffic stop early Sunday morning. The vehicle they were driving had been stolen in Florida.
3. Dream Academy has new home
The Dream Academy charter elementary school may be finding a new home at the Scottish Rite Temple. An application for a conditional-use permit was filed with the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission. Dream Academy is run by the Otis Redding Foundation and will have a statewide attendance zone.
4. Young entrepreneurs showcase businesses
The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy helps students develop business ideas to launch their own company. This year’s class of 20 created businesses ranging from shoe design to videoproduction. Graduates of the academy participated in a pop up shop Saturday to showcase their businesses.
5. Telegraph wins awards
The 2017 Georgia Associated Press Media Editors Broadcast and Newspaper Awards, were announced Saturday in Atlanta, and macon.com was named the state’s top website. Its reporters won first place in categories like deadline reporting, spot news photo, and sports action photo.
