6 things to do to celebrate Independence Day
There’s plenty to do in Middle Georgia to celebrate Independence Day.
With this year’s holiday falling midweek, some events are earlier than others.
Here’s a run-down of ways to celebrate the Fourth of July in the midstate:
Independence Parade and Freedom Fireworks in Perry
Celebrate the holiday early on Sunday in Perry. A parade will start at 6 p.m. on Washington Street and end at the Georgia National Fairgrounds. At 7 p.m., folks will be allowed to enter the grounds through the west gate for a free, picnic-style celebration. Food vendors will be on site, and coolers, blankets and chairs are welcome, according to the Perry Chamber of Commerce. There will be live music by the Celebration Band and fireworks at dark.
Centerville celebrates Independence Day
Fireworks, live music by the A2Z band and food are features of the city’s Independence Day celebration from 6-9:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall. The public event is free. Fireworks are set to begin at 9:30 p.m. and may be viewed from City Hall or The Galleria mall.
Warner Robins Independence Day Concert
Thousands are expected to set up lawn chairs and lay down blankets June 30 at McConnell-Talbert Stadium for the city’s annual concert and fireworks show. The public celebration starts at 6 p.m. Country singer Mary Kate Farmer is set to take the stage at 7:20 p.m. before headliner Montgomery Gentry at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks show, set for 10 p.m., will be a “pyro-musical,” which means the more than 3,000 explosives will be “electrically fired so that they go off in sync with music,” according to a news release from the Warner Robins Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Ol’ Time Independence Day at Jarrell Plantation
Listen to a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence in front of the Mill Complex at noon, eat barbecue, and learn about arts and crafts, chores and games of the past at Jarrell Plantation’s Fourth of July celebration on July 1. Food will be sold on site.
Forsyth celebrates the Fourth of July
Live music, food, fun for kids and a fireworks show at the Monroe County Recreation Department are set for 7 p.m. July 3, according to Forsyth Main Street.
Sparks Over the Park at Lake Tobesofkee
Lake Tobesofkee’s annual July 4 fireworks celebration will start at 9 p.m. on the holiday. All of the lake’s parks will be open for the event, though views will be best at Sandy Beach and Claystone. Admission is $3 per person for everyone ages 7 and up.
