NFL & Atlanta Falcons

He once led the NFL in punting yards. Now, this former Rutland star is excelling in the XFL.

The XFL started its regular season and you may recognize one of the weekend’s stars as one of Macon’s own.

Marquette King, a former Rutland High School wide receiver, boomed a 61-yard punt for the St. Louis Battlehawks on Feb. 9. It got Pat McAfee, a sports personality and former NFL punter, fired up on the broadcast of the Battlehawks’ 15-9 win over the Dallas Renegades.

King, who’s 6-foot and 192 pounds, is a former NFL punter who went undrafted out of Fort Valley State. He was picked up by the Oakland Raiders in 2012. In 2014, King led the NFL in punting yards.

He played for the Raiders until 2017 and got picked up by the Denver Broncos for the 2018 season. After that, he left football but returned to the XFL in 2019.
