This West Laurens senior forward scored 27 points - four more than her opposing team

High school basketball region tournaments are underway. Games started Monday and will continue through Saturday. Here is a look at the scores and highlights from Wednesday, the schedule for Thursday night’s games and a look ahead to a pair of key matchups later this week.

Thursday’s Bibb County games have been postponed until Friday due to inclement weather. The game times will remain the same.

West Laurens 49, Upson-Lee 23 (Girls)

Senior forward Makayla Murray, carried West Laurens to a victory with 27 points and outscored Upson-Lee by four points by herself. West Laurens will take on Spalding Friday in the title game. West Laurens was blown out in the first meeting between the two teams. The second matchup was close, though, with West Laurens losing 59-55 at home on Jan. 24.

West Laurens 49, Howard 42 (Boys)

Junior guard TyQuan Davis powered West Laurens past Howard with a team-high 17 points. He was also key on defense with four steals. The Raiders face Upson-Lee on Friday in the region title game. In both meetings this season, West Laurens lost by single digits.
