Southwest gave playoff veteran Brooks County a challenge Friday, taking the Trojans to the limit before falling 20-16 in the first round of the GHSA Class 2A playoffs at Henderson Stadium.

A 65-yard fumble return by Southwest’s Keyun Brantley with 2:44 to go made it a six-point game. The Patriots (6-5) forced a three-and-out, but quarterback Jordan Slocum’s desperation pass in the final seconds was picked off.

Brooks County (8-3) conceded a safety as time expired. The Trojans go to Callaway, a 55-20 winner over Model, for their second-round game Friday.

Naiquavis Sutton ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Slocum passed for 168 yards and ran for a score.
