Houston County Sharks player recognized for leadership, and other Middle Georgia awards
Middle Georgia is filled with people who commit their time and effort to make the community a better place, and these community leaders, students and organizations often receive awards for their dedication.
Here is a list of people in our community who have recently received awards.
2019 American Association of Adapted Sports Programs awards
O’lando Hicks, a player for the Houston County Sharks, received the “Outstanding Male Athlete” award from the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs for exemplifying great leadership qualities in the AAASP’s sports league, according to a news release.
Four supporters of the Houston County Sharks won Adapted Sports Programs in Recreation and Education awards for their support of the student athletes on the team and for serving as role models, according to the release.
Director of Community and School Affairs Beth McLaughlin, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Zabrina Cannady, Superintendent of Schools Mark Scott and Sharks Area Coordinator Christy Jones received the awards, according to the release.
John R. Whitehead Awards
Violet Poe, Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority board member, received the “Wake Up Everybody Award” from the Macon Housing Authority at the 27th annual John R. Whitehead Awards for her volunteering and making changes in Macon-Bibb County, according to the release.
Dave Scott, MTA ambassador, won the John R. Whitehead Honoree Award for his role in his community at Bowden Homes, according to the release.
Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce Awards
The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce hosted its 159th annual meeting at the Museum of Arts and Sciences on Thursday, and Middle Georgia people and an organization won awards.
