Thousands lose electricity after storm strikes Macon. See map of outages

Over 3,700 homes lost power during a storm that had tornado potential Thursday morning, especially on Macon’s west side, according to a live outage map by Georgia Power.

Woodsy, affluent neighborhoods along North Mumford Road were most impacted. Around 880 of these northwest Macon residences did not have electricity by 11 a.m., the outage map showed.

More than 180 homes lost power off Log Cabin Drive and Mercer University Drive in west Macon, according to the map.

And more than 100 residences surrounding Tucker Road in southwest Macon did not have electricity, according to Georgia Power.

Other pockets of outages were reported throughout Macon-Bibb County.

Macon-Bibb County was the most impacted by power loss compared to other Middle Georgia counties, the map showed.

Georgia Power said it was “assessing (conditions)” around 11:15 a.m. and did not say when power would be restored.

Trees knocked over some power lines when wind gusts were forecasted to reach 25 mph in Macon, according to the National Weather Service.
