Is more snow headed to Georgia this week? The National Weather Service and other experts say it is a possibility. Here’s what to know.
Will it snow in Georgia this week?
The NWS issued a winter weather advisory, beginning 1 a.m. on Wednesday and expiring on Thursday at 1 a.m. The Advisory is for northern parts of the state, following a line from Rome to Gainesville and up.
According to the NWS, those areas are expected to get about half an inch of snow, but the main hazards are dangerous roadways.
“Light snowfall could lead to some slick spots on the roadways in north Georgia on Wednesday,” according to NWS meteorologists.
Other parts of the state will see rainfall, but totals will be “modest,” reaching only about 0.25 inches. As far as other hazards, thunderstorms and flooding aren’t expected to be a concern.
What do local forecasts say?
Here’s what the local forecasts say, according to AccuWeather:
Rain will begin around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning with temperatures around 40 degrees. The area will have a 90% chance of rain all day and continuing into the night. Lows will reach around 42 degrees Wednesday night.
There’s a 97% chance of rain in the afternoon hours. Highs could reach around 53 degrees, but as the day goes on, the temperature will drop and could dip to the mid 40s Wednesday night. Wind gusts around 20 mph are expected.
