Will it snow this winter in Georgia? Here’s what AccuWeather, NOAA experts predict
Roaring fires, hot chocolate and a winter wonderland of snow and ice outside.
That’s the dream for some Georgians, but will it come true for winter 2024? Here’s what to know about the forecast:
What’s the forecast for winter 2024 in Georgia?
Don’t get the fur coats out just yet. According to AccuWeather experts, this winter might not get too cold.
“As people prepare their skis and snowblowers with snow on their minds, AccuWeather forecasters predict that the season will be mild for most of the United States, similar to last winter, which was the warmest on record,” said Brian Lada, AccuWeather meteorologist.
For Georgia and other southern states, Accuweather meteorologists are predicting winter to feel like autumn, with temperatures 2 to 3 degrees higher than normal winter temperatures. The warming trend is due to the La Niña, which creates warmer waters on the Gulf of Mexico and lowers the potential for frigid air to reach southern states.
La Niña also drums up more dry conditions, in turn making pop-up storms more severe during the winter season.
So, what do other experts say?
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts much of the same for winter 2024 in the south.
According to the NOAA’s 2024-2025 temperature outlook, Georgia and other southern states will have likely above to mostly above average temperatures for the winter months of December, January and February.
As far as precipitation chances, the NOAA predicts that Georgia will experience likely below average rain and drier conditions.
