‘Old school’ dad left home without cellphone, Georgia family says. Now he’s missing

A Georgia family says they’re “pretty worried” after their loved one disappeared over Halloween weekend.

Don Hightower, 60, of Wrightsville hasn’t been seen since Saturday, Oct. 30 at about 8 p.m., according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Hightower was driving a gold 2003 Toyota Camry with Georgia license plate AKE9780 at the time.

His son, Kenny Hightower, said he and his father had spent Saturday with Don’s sister who lives nearby, WMAZ reported. Don headed home later that night and was supposed to call his sister when he got there, but never did.

“He doesn’t have a cell phone, he don’t have any credit cards or debit cards — he’s old school,” Kenny told the news station. “His car is a 2003 model, so he doesn’t have a letter on his car, so we can’t track him by that either.”

Hightower was last seen in the unincorporated Scott community, according to the sheriff’s office. He’s described as a white male in his 60s and was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt, red sweatpants and glasses. Police said he has a medical condition that causes confusion and makes it hard to communicate.

Authorities have also asked Scott community residents to check their home security cameras to see if Hightower’s car possibly passed through the area.

“Hopefully, he’s still on the highway somewhere in his car,” Kenny said, according to WMAZ. “He had enough cash on him to fill up a few times and get something to eat. I hope he gets home safe, and I just hope to see him soon.”

Anyone with information on Hightower’s whereabouts is asked to call the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 478-864-4003.

Wrightsville is about 63 miles east of Macon.
