District 1 Commissioner Valerie Wynn voted Macon-Bibb mayor pro tempore

District 1 Commissioner Valerie Wynn was voted mayor pro tempore Tuesday night after former Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark announced his resignation from the Macon-Bibb County Commission.

Wynn, who has served as a commissioner since 2018, was voted into the position 5-3. She beat District 2 Commissioner Paul Bronson for the role.

The mayor pro tempore can act in the mayor’s stead in the event that the mayor is absent or if the office becomes vacant.

“I am grateful to have been elected to this role and am looking forward to working alongside Mayor Miller,” Wynn said in a statement posted to her Facebook page.

The vote followed Clark announcing his resignation on social media on Monday.

According to the Macon-Bibb charter, because more than 12 months remain in Clark’s term, the county must hold a special election to fill the vacancy. District 5 will remain without a representative until a new commissioner can be sworn in.
