This Macon-Bibb County commissioner is stepping down. What we know
District 5 commissioner and mayor pro-tempore of Macon-Bibb County, Seth Clark, announced Monday that he would be resigning.
Clark — who has been on the Board of Commissioners representing District 5 since 2020, which encompasses Vineville, Ingleside, and Payne — announced his decision to step down in a Facebook post. He was known for pushing for the Ocmulgee Mounds to become a national park, and has spearheaded those efforts in his role as the executive director of the Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve Initiative.
He has also worked on cutting taxes for working families, investing in public safety, rebuilding infrastructure and green spaces, and strengthening neighborhoods, according to his post.
Those efforts were accomplished in Macon because the residents of the county believed in one another, he said in his post. The residents have inspired Clark and given him hope for Macon’s future, saying in his Facebook post that “Georgia can learn a lot from Macon — not just from what we’ve done, but from how we do it: together.”
Though it is unclear what his next steps will be, he said Macon’s story “is worth telling, and the lessons we’ve learned are worth sharing.”
“And in the coming days, I’ll be announcing my intention to do just that,” he said in his post.
“But before that, I want to say thank you, Macon,” Clark said. “You’ve shown me, my family, and our state that we govern best when we look after one another. I’ll never forget it.”
