Couple had trouble making out numbers on lottery ticket, then got a big surprise
A retiree won more than $2 million in the lottery in Maryland, but he and his wife weren’t sure they’d hit the jackpot at first, lottery officials said.
When the man scanned his FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive ticket, which cost $30, he got the message, “Go to Lottery,” according to a July 2 Maryland Lottery news release.
And he and his wife “had trouble reading some of the numbers” after taking the ticket home, so they weren’t positive they’d hit it big.
Then, they spotted an online article saying a winning ticket was purchased at a liquor store in Indian Head, according to lottery officials.
“That was the liquor store where I bought the ticket,” the Charles County man told lottery officials. “I knew it had to be it.”
It was, and now he and his wife are multi-millionaires.
They plan to help family members and buy a house with the windfall, lottery officials said.
Indian Head is about a 65-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
