A Powerball player was a number shy of the $20 million jackpot — but still walked away with a sizable prize, according to the Georgia Lottery.

Someone won $50,000 on a ticket matching four numbers and the Powerball in the drawing on Monday, Dec. 9, results posted on the lottery’s website show.

The winning ticket was sold at a HUDS 5 Mini Mart in Whigham, officials said.

The winning numbers were 35, 37, 40, 45, 51 and red Powerball 24, according to the Powerball website. The Power Play multiplier option was 2x.

It comes just days after a $256 million Powerball jackpot was won in New York, marking the ninth Powerball jackpot won this year, the game’s website says. The hefty prize has a $123.5 million cash value.

There were no $1 million or $2 million winners in Monday’s drawing, and no one won the $20 million grand prize, results show.

The next Powerball drawing is Dec. 11 with and estimated $30 million jackpot.

Winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize, and players are encouraged to check and sign their tickets, the Georgia Lottery said.

Whigham is about a 30-mile drive north from Tallahassee, Florida.

What to know about Powerball

To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
