‘Look at this! Look at this!’ Woman wakes husband with news of huge Mega Millions win

The morning after a recent Mega Millions drawing, a 36-year-old mom woke up and checked her online Michigan Lottery account.

Rachel Frye could not believe what was pending in her account, according to an Aug. 21 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

“When I saw that I had a pending balance of $2 million, all I could think was: ‘That’s not right!’” she told lottery officials.

Thinking the balance might have been a mistake, she closed out of the Michigan Lottery app on her phone and checked her email.

“When I saw the email from Lottery saying I had won a prize and to check my account, I knew it must be real!” Frye told lottery officials. “I rolled over and started shaking my husband to wake him up and stuck my phone in his face screaming ‘Look at this! Look at this!’”

The Freeland woman had matched the five white balls during the Aug. 4 Mega Millions drawing — 11-30-45-52-56, according to the release. This qualified her for a $1 million prize.

But because she added the Megaplier, her winnings were multiplied to $2 million.

She was one of nine Mega Millions players to match the five white balls during the Aug. 4 drawing, officials said.

Frye, who plays the Mega Millions game online “pretty often,” said she plans to pay off student loans, establish college funds for her kids and save, according to the release.

“Winning this prize is incredible and gives my family some financial comfort,” Frye said when claiming her prize.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
