Japanese tourist’s TikTok has people swooning. ‘Normalize romanticizing Wisconsin’
“Wisconsin is so underrated,” a tourist says in a TikTok video. “I’m from Japan, but I like Wisconsin. I’ll tell you why.”
The TikTok video, posted by a food vlogger who uses the handle George Japan on Tuesday, Sept. 13, has native Wisconsinites and outsiders swooning.
“I’m from Wisconsin and this was beautiful,” another person wrote.
“I’m American and this is the first time I wanted to visit Wisconsin,” someone commented on TikTok.
“Normalize romanticizing Wisconsin,” one TikTok user commented.
So what’s best about Wisconsin? “Culver’s, you should get a Butterburger; it’s better than McDonald’s. And also Wisconsin fried cheese curds. I love it,” George said.
“Culver’s,” someone commented, “give this guy a sponsorship.”
George also listed another stop that drew some ire: Edwards Apple Orchard. “You can get apple cider; it’s so refreshing,” he says. “And don’t forget to get a doughnut there. It’s so good. It’s literally worth visiting here just to get this doughnut.”
Someone commented on Twitter, saying, “just gotta stand up for my people and say that edwards apple orchard is, in fact, in Illinois.”
The Walworth County Fair also made George’s list, which he says is “one of Wisconsin’s oldest and largest county fairs. You can see the monster truck derbies, but nobody knows who won.”
At the end of the TikTok video, George adds an important detail: “This is why I like Wisconsin…’s summer.”
The closing word made people laugh. “As a native I agree — summer is great! (Let’s forget about winter),” one person wrote.
How did George end up in Wisconsin? According to one Twitter comment, “he’s traveling the world to meet his subscribers. My (boyfriend) and I offered to give him a place to stay, and we live in Wisconsin so he came on over.”
Another TikTok user commented that Wisconsin’s “tourism board needs to hire you.”
The TikTok caught the attention of the Green Bay Packers who commented, thanking George for visiting.
Walworth is about 60 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
