Man accused of fatally striking pedestrian on Macon road could face 20 years in prison
A man charged with hitting a pedestrian with his car on Rocky Creek Road last year in 2025 will serve a lengthy prison sentence if convicted, according to court records from Monday.
Carmelo Johnson was indicted Monday on one count of homicide by vehicle in the first degree and one count of hit-and-run, according to court records. He’s accused of hitting Ronni Abbott, 23, on Rocky Creek Road on Aug. 28, 2025, and failing to stop at the scene of the crash.
Abbott died from “blunt force trauma to the head,” Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said at the time.
She was reported missing a day prior, Bibb County Dep. Alexis Mitchell-White previously said.
Johnson was arrested in February, seven months after the incident, according to a previous news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson faces between three and 15 years of prison time if convicted of homicide by vehicle. If he’s convicted of hit-and-run that caused the death of another person, he’ll serve between one and five years in prison, according to Georgia law.
An indictment is an allegation against the defendant.
