Murder suspect faces life after deadly shooting in blighted home in Macon
A suspect in a Macon shooting death that happened in February is facing a life sentence, according to an indictment from Monday.
Dequais Threatt was indicted on one count of malice murder, one count of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault and one count of possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, court records showed.
His case stemmed from an incident on Feb. 25, where Montaego Maxwell Sr., 45, died after suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds,” Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph at the time of the shooting.
Maxwell died in a blighted house on the 1200 block of Rocky Creek Road, Jones said.
Within hours of the incident, Threatt was taken into custody by the McDonough Police Department and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Threatt is facing a life sentence if he is convicted of the felony murder and malice murder charges, according to Georgia law.
If he’s convicted of the aggravated assault charge, he faces between one and 20 years of prison time. He’ll face five years in prison, which would run consecutively with other sentences, if convicted of the gun possession charge.
An indictment is an allegation against the defendant.
