Suspect arrested within hours of fatally shooting Macon man on Wednesday, authorities say
A man was shot and killed at a blighted house Wednesday afternoon in south Macon, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.
A suspect faced murder charges within hours of the incident, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A 911 call around 5:20 p.m. reported someone was shot at a home in the 1200 block of Rocky Creek Road , Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph. It was unclear if the shooting happened inside or outside the home.
Montaego Maxwell Sr., 45, was injured with “multiple gunshot wounds,” Jones said.
Deputies and paramedics responded to the scene, and Maxwell was taken to a hospital in “critical condition,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jones said he pronounced Maxwell dead at the hospital around 6 p.m.
Suspect arrested
A suspect was arrested about 60 miles north of Macon within hours after the shooting, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Dequais Threatt, 38, was arrested by the McDonough Police Department and Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force took Threatt to the BCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division for questioning.
Threatt was then booked in the Bibb County Jail without bond. He was charged with murder and aggravated assault, deputies said.
