Woman, officer ‘critically ambushed’ in Warner Robins by 21-year-old suspect, chief says
A 31-year-old woman and police officer were allegedly shot by 21-year-old man in Warner Robins Thursday morning, according to local law enforcement officials.
The incident reportedly started as a “domestic disturbance” between the suspect and the woman at a home in the 100 block of Rose Street, Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher said at a press conference held at the Houston County Sheriff’s Office .
The woman called 911 around 8:30 a.m. to report the issue and was allegedly shot by Rashaun Williams, the person whom she was calling about, Fisher said. She was hospitalized in critical condition.
Three minutes after the 911 call, the first officer arrived at the scene. The 35-year-old patrol officer was “critically ambushed” and wounded by a gunshot. He’s in critical condition, Fisher said.
Williams then left Rose Street and barricaded himself inside a home just a few feet away on Redmond Street, which prompted a “mass” amount of officers from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, Fisher said. No one else was in the home.
SWAT teams were dispatched along with members of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshals Service, Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Police Department and Centerville Police Department, according to Fisher.
“This is one of the most horrifying types of calls,” Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards said at the news conference.
Williams eventually surrendered around 11 a.m. and was arrested. Fisher declined to share what charges he will face.
He was not injured in the incident and the areas were deemed safe Thursday afternoon.
Fisher said the GBI may provide updates and is leading the investigation.
