Teenagers arrested, charged in connection to shooting that injured a 10-year-old in Macon
Two teenagers face charges in connection to a shooting that injured a 10-year-old boy in Macon last month, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.
Nineteen-year-old Trevonta Makell Williams, and 18-year-old Obrien Jaylon Leonard were detained Tuesday in an unrelated incident, but “further investigation” allowed officers to link the two to a shooting on Oct. 26 in the 3900 block of Mathis Street that injured the 10-year-old boy, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The two suspects were first detained in reference to a stolen vehicle spotted in the 3400 block of Houston Avenue Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office. After being taken into custody at a residence without incident, investigators discovered the two were allegedly connected to the shooting.
Leonard has been charged with felony theft by taking, felony theft by receiving stolen property, and aggravated assault. Williams was charged with a probation violation, two counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property, and aggravated assault. Both were denied bond, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office previously said the victim was in stable condition. He was struck in the leg when a bullet was fired into a home, officials said.
