Autopsy reveals the cause of death for missing woman found dead on Macon road
Newly released autopsy results revealed that a woman who was found dead beside a Macon road in August died from a physical injury to her head, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.
Ronni Nykole Abbott, 23, died from “blunt force trauma to the head,” according to Coroner Leon Jones, who learned her cause of death after the autopsy results were released Thursday morning.
Abbott was found dead around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, in a wooded embankment beside Rocky Creek Road in south Macon.
Abbott was allegedly struck by a vehicle and it “appeared to be a hit-and-run fatality,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “What’s in the media release still stands,” Sgt. Christopher Williams told The Telegraph in an email Thursday.
Abbott was reported missing a day before deputies found her dead, Dep. Alexis Mitchell-White said at the scene.
Mitchell-White said investigators found her beside the road when they were “following up on the missing persons report.”
The case was still under investigation, and the sheriff’s office declined to share on Thursday whether or not a suspect had been identified or arrested.
